BIOGRAPHY:

My interest in the jewelry arts began in art class at Fort LeBoeuf High School in Waterford, Pa. I enjoyed working with jewelry and metals so much that I continued to pursue this interest in college at Seton Hill College in Greensburg, Pa. After obtaining a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Metalsmithing through four years of intensive study, I continued to refine and diversify my talents by producing pieces of jewelry in a studio setting in Edinboro, Pa. I was then able to acquire a position as a jeweler here at Ralph Miller Jewelers where I continue to add to my talents and capabilities.

ARTIST'S STATEMENT:

A jeweler creates pieces of art to be worn and seen. The wearer is used as a vehicle to show the expressiveness of the creator and yet adds their own dimension to the piece.

Designs for pieces are often thought of out of the blue. Ideas are jotted down, sometimes reworked and finally worked out in metal and other materials. My own pieces are usually made of white metals, sterling silver and white gold, because its reflective quality intrigues me more than that of the yellow metals.

I like to create pieces that incorporate movement: things that attract the eye. They are playful and made to be interactive with the wearer. Jewelry is made to be enjoyed by the wearer; otherwise, why own it?

My recent trip to a large gemshow in Tuscon, Arizona makes me excited to get back to the studio. I now have many new ideas for my work to take on. Some pieces will include variations of mixed colored stones, different finishing techniques and drusy (a natural crystal formation).

Selected work by Carrie Rosenthal.
