A member of the quartz family, bloodstone is characteristically deep green in hue with recognizable red dots that look similar to drops of blood (hence the name). A wearer of bloodstones, it is believed, can stop bleeding and hemorrhaging when cut or hurt. Legend holds that precious drops of Christ's blood dripping onto green quartz stone at the foot of his cross caused the red blood spots.
