Moonstone

Moonstone is one of the most valuable members of the Feldspar family. Three quarters of it is formed either igneously or metamorphically and is commonly found throughout the world in countries such as Brazil, Russia, South Africa, India, Canada, Malagasy Republic, Sri Lanka and Burma. Moonstones are usually thought of as a milky semi-transparent white or cream color with a blue sheen that appears when it is tilted in light. In actuality, it can come in other colors, such as blue, light green, or even rainbow-colored, in addition to yellow, gold, orange and light pink. They are found in Kenya, Norway, the Soviet Union, and Canada. Labradorite is a very high quality feldspar gem that usually displays very high intensity of iridescent color flashes. As legend holds, the wearer can see the future, as well as experience spiritual clarity and increased passion and emotions. It was also thought to drive sleepiness away. Much additional lore comes from India where it was considered sacred. Moonstone was also a significant stone for new lovers because it was believed that if they placed a stone in their mouths on a full moon they could foresee their future together. We hope that you will stop in and see some of our wonderful rainbow carved moonstones at Ralph Miller Jewelers.
